Sometimes I get really tired of always being the parent who pays attention to the clock, who gets us out the door on time, who remembers to replenish the diaper bag or to take astronaut tubes when we are going on a little journey with the baby. I get tired of planning every meal, or making sure that we leave to pick up M at 4:50pm instead of 5pm, as I have found that those 10 minutes are the difference between a child fed and happy and a child in total hungry meltdown mode.
But I also know that I am the project PI, so it is my job to pay attention to when she needs a doctor's appointment, the diaper genie emptied, or something new added to her highchair plate.
How I would kind of enjoy a couple of days of someone else being the adult in the house, make me dinner, drive the car, etc. Dh said that he leaves me to do all those things because I'm better at it than he is.
I mentioned that this is like saying that I should do all the housing cleaning because I am better at it, and he replies, "but you have particular ways you like things done..."
He seems to have misunderstood my metaphor...
"Dh said that he leaves me to do all those things because I'm better at it than he is. "
ReplyDeleteMy family's response: Then he needs more practice. Period.
Ugh. But yup. Families do tend to have single PI's. My husband is my family's PI, and he definitely has ways that he wants things done... sometimes, which are difficult to guess and wind up with me in the doghouse. It's not all roses on the other side, either! :)
ReplyDeleteUgh and double ugh. We are in the same place. I now just give him lists and have him do those things (in his own, sweet time), but it sure would have been nice if someone other than me could notice that we had only one diaper left in the entire house. (And no, DH, swim diapers do NOT count.)
ReplyDeleteThinking of you.

Maddy
